Buying a Home with Your Furry Pal

As you embark on this exciting adventure of purchasing your next home, we understand that your furry companion is an integral part of your family. At least, our fur babies are for us! Whether you already have a dog or are considering introducing one into your family, we want to ensure that your new home is a perfect fit for both you and your four-legged friend. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind as you search for the ideal home that accommodates both your needs and your pet's happiness:

  1. Condo Regulations: If you are considering a condo, it’s really important to check the Condo Board’s Rules and Regulations to learn about the pet restrictions in place, if any. This could affect your purchase if those rules and regulations do not suit your needs.

  2. Property Layout: Does the new potential home have the space and layout that makes sense for the size of the dog you have or are considering? If you are considering a larger dog, we recommend considering a property with a more open concept feel.

  3. Backyard: If the property has a yard, make sure that fencing is secure and taller than your dog’s vertical jump! Check for any potential hazards in the yard such as toxic plants, exposed metal or debris. Finally, if the property has a pool, consider fencing and future installation of a safety cover to keep your pup safe!

  4. Floor Materials: Consider having tiled or engineered hardwood floors for easier clean-up. These materials tend to be easier to maintain, with less chance of damage over time. Carpets may be more challenging to keep clean and odour-free.

  5. Dog-friendly Community: Check out the surrounding areas to see how pet-friendly the community is. Having friendly neighbours with dogs as well allows for a supportive community atmosphere. Usually seeing lots of neighbours out walking their dogs in the neighbourhood is a good indicator of a dog-friendly community!

  6. Proximity to Pet-Friendly Amenities: Owning a doggo means lots of walks and lots of outdoor play. Look for properties that are close to pet-friendly parks, walking trails, or even dog-friendly stores. See below for the top 5 off leash dog parks & 5 pet-friendly stores in London:
